East Side Kauai Area Guide
The east side of Kauai is the most central spot on the island! From Lihue to Anahola, this part of the Island is jam packed with everything you need, and even a little adventure. Lihue offers the largest shopping selection on the Island including Macy’s, Kmart, Costco. You can also venture over to Kilohana Plantation and take a ride on the train to see the beautiful grounds which include orchards, horses, cattle, and boars. After your train ride, enjoy a fabulous dinner at Gaylord’s. Nawiliwili Harbor and Kalipaki Bay are home to the Marriot, Dukes, a beautiful beach and sailing!
Kapaa also offers plenty of local shops and restaurants as well as an art night the first Saturday of every month. This art walk is an eclectic variety of local vendors who sell jewelry, art, photography, food and more. You can also experience some adventure in this area by kayaking or paddle boarding up the tranquil Wailua River and at the end take a short hike to secret falls! Another hidden treasure in Kapahi is Hoopi’I Falls where you can jump off of cliffs into the fall’s crisp mountain waters. There are also several beaches available in this area including Baby Beach, Lydgate Beach, and Kealia Beach. Don’t forget about The Sleeping Giant!
If you head on north a bit, you will run into Anahola/Moloaa. This place is great if you are looking for the true countryside of Kauai. There you will find large plots of land, a lot of agricultural land, and Cliffside living with beautiful view of both mountains and ocean. Anahola is also the location of the Anahola Marketplace where you can get some of the best Saimen on the Island!
When you are searching for a home, it’s nice to note that the east side is a perfect combination of the wetland of the North shore and the sunny dry lands of the south and west side. On the east side you will more than likely always be able to go to the beach with beautiful weather and mild temperatures. Here’s a great page on Kailani one of the Eastside’s all around best places to buy an oceanfront condo.
If you have a little more in the budget you might want to step into Waipouli Beach Resort and Spa.
Here is a look at some of the new homes being built on the Eastside in the Wailua Houselots. These homes are selling before they even hit the market for a little over 500k. These are 2 and 3 bedroom options (1250 sqft homes).
There is still land available to buy and build near the beach. For more information about Land / Lots in Kapaa:
